THE AFROLATINO FESTIVAL OF NEW YORK CELEBRATES THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT FROM LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN HAVE MADE TO OUR CITY AND THE GLOBAL CULTURE AS A WHOLE. NOW IN ITS THIRD YEAR, THE SUMMER CULTURAL EVENT ATTRACTS A WIDE ARRANGE OF ARTISTS, BOTH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL, AS WELL AS ENTREPRENEURS, ACADEMICS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. WITH CONFERENCES, CULINARY PRESENTATIONS AND ARTISTIC SHOWCASES, THE FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS THE WORK, VALUES AND ISSUES IMPORTANT TO THE AFROLATINO COMMUNITY.
Cynthia Montaño is a singer-songwriter from Cali Colombia. Her latest album, Ideas, released in February 2016 is a tribute to the ideas, imagination and creativity as the basis of the creative process. It offers listeners interpretations of her favorite themes, with new musical arrangements and a more acoustic sound. Her music focuses on the notion of World music moving between genres like rap, dance hall, reggae, rock, music Pacific, the funk, Afrobeat, salsa, jazz and others.
